Welcome to my Therapy and Counselling Practice
My name is Wendy Matthews and I practice as a therapist, counsellor and self-awareness facilitator in Auckland.
I support people as they journey inward to release pain, open their hearts, and create a life in which they experience joy. Perhaps you are experiencing feelings of depression or anxiety, having work or career issues, relationship concerns, problems with addiction, eating disorders, identity crisis, or simply wondering ‘what is the purpose of life’, if you are struggling - you don’t have to go it alone.
My practice focuses on working alongside you, supporting you to self-observe, to become mindful, more self-aware and identify what's really going on in your life which is causing you pain and discomfort. I guide you away from the old pattern of analysing and intellectualising with the mind and instead encourage you to look inwards. Challenging you to drop the repetitive pattern of searching for an external source of blame for your situation and instead, via developing inner self awareness through relationship, become fully self responsible for the quality of your own life experience. Through an emerging faculty of awareness you regain the ability to truly feel your feelings, get to the root cause of your pain and begin to move out of suffering and in to joy.
Much of the counselling work I do focuses on using Breathwork to release pain and limitations, along with gentle perception exercises to increase your faculty of awareness, combined with intuitive mentoring to process healing and take action steps to create sustainable change.

At a time in my life when things were falling a part I was lead to begin a Breathwork practice, and a practice of mindfulness and self-observation, and since that day my life has never been the same.
At the time I remember thinking, "How the hell are breathing, mindfulness and self-observation going to change my life?" Oh, but they did. They dramatically did. This method of counselling, incorporating breathing techniques along with mindfulness and self-observation practice was not about relaxation. It was about healing. It was about opening and softening my heart. It was about discovering myself.
And that's what I did.
